Every year, in January, Northern Californians are treated to the sight of spouting whales migrating down the coast to warmer waters in Baja. Divers often get to see them on the surface as they are traveling by boat to their dive sites. But it is so RARE and such a treat to see one UNDERWATER! Clinton Bauder, and Alison and Robert Lee were privileged to encounter a grey whale while diving Pt. Lobos on January 26! They were cruising along the sand channel in 30 feet of water, and the whale swam right on by. Clinton was able to record the moment with his camera and share it with the rest of us. We are hearing accounts that a couple of divers who were diving South Monastery the same day also saw a gray whale in 35 feet of water. You just never know what you might see while diving in the Monterey area! Every dive is an opportunity to visit a world most people never see. This is why we love diving all year round!
